House on the Bay
24″ x 36″
This large mixed media piece consists of layers of papers, acrylic paints, and oil paints. I wanted to create a semi-abstract effect, emphasizing the varying textures, the warm colors, and the misty light on the water. I was particularly interested in the negative spaces of the land.
House on the Bay was inspired by the gorgeous light and the evocative mood of the stilt houses on the Gulf Coast of Alabama. I fell in love with this area during the three winters my husband, Charlie Price, was writer-in-residence in Fairhope, Alabama, a unique old Utopian town in the South.
